Custom armored drainage ditches for gravel driveways

Hand-placed rock ditches that move water where it should go and hold their shape. If water's carving a trench across your gravel, a bare ditch won't hold it for long. It'll widen, wash out and eat the edge of your driveway.

An armored ditch is a lined channel that carries water without eroding

A bare ditch is just dirt. Every rain cuts it a little deeper, widens it and pulls your gravel down into it. An armored ditch puts a layer of hand-placed stone along that channel. We cut the ditch, then set rock by hand so it locks in place.

The rock takes the force of the water instead of your soil. Each stone sits against the next, and they interlock. That lock is what holds the grade, so the channel keeps its shape and keeps moving water where it should go. That's the difference between a ditch you fix once and one you re-cut every spring.

You probably need one if water's already winning

  • Water washes your gravel downhill every hard rain.
  • A trench or rut is forming along the edge of the drive.
  • Potholes and uneven spots keep coming back.
  • Water pools in the drive, or floods the garage or a low area.
  • The ditch beside your driveway keeps getting wider.
  • Your drive is on a slope and the water has no good path off it.

Rock along the drive, before and after

Same driveway, before and after.

BeforeA gravel driveway with an eroded red clay bank along one side before the work
AfterThe same driveway after the work, with rock-lined ditches along both sides
York Highway, Hilham: rock-lined ditches along both sides to carry the water off the drive.
BeforeA washed-out gravel driveway with ruts and loose stone before recovery
AfterThe same driveway after recovery, with rock lining the edge
Walking Horse Lane, Cookeville: rock set along the edge so the water stops cutting into the drive.

Most driveway trouble traces back to water

Most of the driveways we fix start with a water problem. We figure out where it's coming from and where it needs to go, then line that path with rock so it stops eating your driveway.
